LNER marks National Apprenticeship Week
LONDON NORTH Eastern Railway marked National Apprenticeship Week by celebrating the contribution of more than 80 apprentices who currently work across its business. From train driving and engineering to digital marketing and HR, there are a wide range of apprentices at LNER, all currently playing an important part in keeping the country moving. Anna Maggs, Apprentice Train Driver with LNER, said: “I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship and the amount I’m learning from the experience. From studying in a classroom, sitting in a simulator and then driving a real train, it is quite a journey! I feel proud to look back and think about how much I’ve achieved in such a short period of time.”
LNER utilises its status as an apprenticeship training provider to deliver operationally focused apprenticeships, as well as working with a range of providers along the East Coast route to ensure a range of qualifications are available to employees throughout the business. Karen Lewis, People Director at LNER, said: “Apprenticeships play an important part in helping us support the development of existing employees as well as attracting fresh talent into the rail industry. LNER values the contribution of all of our apprentices and we are delighted to be supporting them in gaining new experience as well as a recognised qualification.”
In January, LNER was awarded ‘UK Top Employer’ status by the Top Employers Institute for the second year running. LNER was praised for the focus on employee development and commitment to health and wellbeing.
