Stirling roof to get a £3m makeover

-

WORK IS due to start shortly on a ten-month £3m project to refurbish the non-glazed roof sections at the grade A listed Stirling station. The project will last from February to December and will involve the refurbishment of all slate roofs, flat roofs, roof-lights, stone chimneys and parapets, guttering and drainpipes on both the main station building and Platform 3/6 buildings.

The project will safeguard the listed station buildings and will help ensure structural safety for years to come. Making the roof water-tight and fixing the guttering and drainage will also help protect the buildings from ongoing deterioration stemming from the ageing roofs. Materials that match the original as closely as practically possible will be employed to deliver a sympathetic and traditional solution.

This will build upon previous investments at the station, which included the refurbishment of the glazed sections in 2016 and the stepfree access provided to all platforms via a new footbridge with lifts completed in 2019. The latest phase will bring the total investment in the station to more than £10m.
