Final HEX Class 332s disposed of

-

THREE CARS from 332001 have escaped the mass disposal of the redundant Heathrow Express Class 332s, at least for the moment, by being plinthed at Goole. Now situated on the site of the soon to be constructed Siemens plant, 78400, 72412 and 63400 were delivered by road between February 9-11 and placed side by side on track panels. They are due to be used as academy classrooms in due course, which will involve some internal alterations. Prior to leaving Old Oak Common, all three were wrapped in new Siemens vinyls to promote the coming of the plant. The unlucky fourth car, 78401, was delivered to the Peterborough yard of Sims Metals on February 11. Meanwhile, Old Oak Common has been cleared of the remaining sets, 332006/013 being hauled to Newport

Docks for scrapping on February 2 by 66748 and 66757.with 332009/011 following eight days later between 66791 and 66726. The final pair, 332004 and 332008, departed on February 16 in the care of another pair of GBRf Class 66/7s (66708 and 66775), thereby bringing the closure of the West London depot to allow for its demolition as part of the HS2 enabling works.
