The Midland Railway – Butterley has launched a fundraising appeal to allow it to purchase a replacement Gardner 8L3B engine for Class 03 D2138. The loco has been out of traffic since suffering an engine failure 14 years ago, with subsequent quotes for repairs proving to be greater than the funds available. A rare opportunity to secure a replacement has recently arisen but the MR-B requires a total of £4,500 to fund its acquisition and transport. By mid-February around £2,600 had been raised.
