NEW MOVES AND CHANGES
Crewe Heritage Centre’s Class 47 D1842 was a Crewe Diesel loco for most of its life (having been withdrawn from there in 1988) and in January it returned to its spiritual home when it arrived for work to be undertaken by Locomotive Services Limited. This is to include a full exam, bodywork repairs, repainting and recommissioning. It’s been in excess of 26 years since the loco was last at Crewe Diesel Depot for the open day in 1994.
The overhaul of 37906 at the Battlefield Line continues, with the loco undergoing several test runs in early February.
2021 sees a slew of anniversaries at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway. It is the Diamond Jubilee of the Scottish Railway Preservation Society, the 60th birthday for both resident Class 27s (27001 and 27005) and 20 years since 27005 last worked a passenger train. To mark the latter occasion the SRPS plans to resume the work on restoring the body and overhauling the Sulzer power unit. It is estimated that the approximately £25,000 project will see the loco back in traffic. The group is hoping to ease the financial burden by asking for donations.
