Progress made on Class 104 DT
ALTHOUGH THE current restrictions have impacted greatly on the amount of restoration work that has been possible, one project that is forging ahead is that of the sole-remaining Class 104 Driving Trailer 56182, which is being restored from scrap condition at the North Norfolk Railway.
Due to full-time staff being furloughed at the railway, the opportunity presented itself for the coach to be accommodated undercover, enabling the cab to be completely re-assembled to the point that it is now 95% completed. The wooden floor in the middle saloon has been removed due to its rotted condition and a new one fitted, while underneath the vehicle a complete rewire has been carried out. This work has been assisted by the removal of the bogies, allowing access to all areas of the underframe. The vehicle has now been in preservation for two decades, having last been used as a Sandite trailer at Buxton, and has been under active restoration for the last five years.
