Order placed for ‘Clan’ front bogie tyres
THE LATEST progress on newbuild BR 7MT 4-6-2 72010 Hengist has seen the Standard Steam Locomotive Company (SSLC) place an order for the loco’s next key components. The Clan Project is building the 1,000th British Railways steam loco. Work continues at CTL Seal’s factory in Sheffield, despite COVID-19.
An order for the front bogie wheel tyres and axles has been placed with
South African heavy-engineering firm Naledi Ringrollers by South Devon Railway Engineering, the project’s wheelset contractor. The choice of a world leader in the field will ensure work is completed to the highest standard, said SSLC. Within weeks of launching a £22,000 appeal to complete the final phase of work on the front bogie, more than half of the target amount was raised. www.theclanproject.org
