Newton Aycliffe starts welding
HITACHI RAIL has begun welding at Newton Aycliffe in County Durham following an £8.5 million investment in welding and painting facilities at the site. The move has created 40 new jobs and takes Hitachi’s investment in Newton Aycliffe to £110m. Welding and painting will be performed on the 33 Class 810 Aurora bi-modes for East Midlands Railway and on more than 65 of the Class 805 bi-modes and Class 807 EMU vehicles on order for Avanti West Coast.
Newton Aycliffe is performing the MIG welding, which Hitachi says is a step forward for the site’s development and paves the way for further welding capability in the future.
