All change at King’s Cross

-

NETWORK RAIL is making plenty of rapid process as it untangles the King’s Cross throat. Smart turnarounds are being performed by LNER on Platforms 7 and 8, the only two long-distance platforms still open. This has been aided by fewer people travelling due to the coronavirus pandemic. As can be seen from the accompanying traffic, new track has been laid for the newly reopened Gasworks Tunnel east bore and shortly afterwards the platforms ends of 0-3 were demolished to make way for the realigned track. Platforms 4-6 will quickly follow and the whole job is due to be finished by early June.

Once completed the simplified trackwork and extra tunnel will allow for faster arrivals and departures and provide a significant increase in capacity and flexibility.
