Welsh Pacer preserved
AN IMPORTANT gap in Pacer preservation has been plugged this month with the arrival of a former Transport for Wales Class 142 at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway. 142006 was transported by road to the railway’s Cynheidre site on February 15 to become the only one of its class with the Arriva Trains Wales-style interior and refurbishments to pass into preservation. This means that there is now an example of all four different types of interior at heritage railways.
The unit has been donated by Transport for Wales and Angel Trains, which have both been thanked by the railway’s management. 142006 was delivered in 1985 to the Manchester area and was originally finished in Greater Manchester PTE orange livery. It ended its career working services in the South Wales Valleys and was withdrawn in December last year. It moved to Landore in Swansea for storage from where it was decommissioned and offered for preservation. The railway intends to use the unit for public service on its short line, where it will be retained in its South Wales ‘Valley Line’ livery.
