Heritage lines reopen

-

APRIL 12 was a red-letter day for most of the UK’s heritage railways as it signified Phase Two of the Government’s easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions. The following weekend in particular was very busy for the lines affected, which despite the social distancing restrictions managed to run plenty of trains – all helped by the splendid, if a little fresh, early spring sunshine. With the sunny weather predicted to last into May, the railways were hopeful of attracting plenty of visitors.

Several lines have capitalised on their compartment stock to make social distancing easier, particularly for family groups, and this also helps to maintain significant income. Among the notable events was the running of GWR new-build Saint 2999 Lady of Legend at the Severn Valley Railway in April. May will hopefully see all remaining lines and attractions open to visitors, particularly after the 17th when the Phase Three lifting of restrictions is due to take place.
