Approval for Inverness Airport station

-

THE HIGHLAND Council’s planning committee has approved proposals to build a station at Inverness Airport on the Aberdeen to Inverness route. The facility will be built 12km north east of the city, where the railway runs along the side of the airport. It will have two platforms, and a passing loop for the single-track line. Parking will be provided for 64 cars, including ten electric charging facilities and four disabled spaces plus cycle parking. The level crossing at Petty to the west of the airport will be closed.

Network Rail said it was now working with contractors and local stakeholders to develop a construction programme lasting around 18 months. The completion date is dependent on how quickly the infrastructure manager can mobilise.

Minister for Transport Graeme Dey said: “The Scottish government has committed around £14m towards this key new station and this is another significant step towards delivery of this important project. By providing this kind of sustainable travel interchange, we can bring real benefits to the region by making Inverness Airport more accessible for passengers and staff alike. It will also deliver sustainable travel links to the growing Inverness Airport Business Park and the new town of Tornagrain.”
