Teddy Bears for sale

-

FOLLOWING A change in personal circumstances, the owner of Nene Valley Railwaybased Class 14s, D9520 and D9529, put both locos up for sale recently. D9520 was sold very quickly and left the NVR for the Mid-norfolk Railway on June 9. As we closed for press there was no additional news regarding D9529.

It had a very, very short life with British Rail, having been delivered from Swindon Works in November 1964 and withdrawn from Hull Dairycoates fewer than four years later in 1968. It was then sold to Stewarts & Lloyds (one of many sold into industry) and was put to work at Glendon Ironstone Quarries near Kettering before it was sent to the Corby Ironstone Quarries System in 1970. In 1980 it went to the tube works and then was sold to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in 1981. It was back in the ironstone field in 1984 when it was sold to the Rutland Railway Museum, Cottesmore. In 1998 it went on loan to the Great Central Railway – Nottingham and in 2004 it was sold again, precipitating a move to the Nene Valley Railway where it has been ever since. At the time the NVR, could count six Class 14s on its books – D9504, D9516, D9518, D9523, D9529 and D9520 – but soon it could be none.
