THE FIVE HST power cars that have recently been leased by Colas Railfreight, 43251/257/272/274/277, have been moved to the Severn Valley Railway for exams and some modification works prior to entering service with the operator.

On July 17, 37057 Barbara Arbon collected 43272 and 43277 from Nemesis Rail at Burton, where they had been in store, and moved them to Derby RTC. It was intended that the two power cars would be forwarded to the SVR on July 23.

On July 22, just after this issue of Railways Illustrated closed for press, it was planned for Colas to collect 43251/257/274, plus preserved 43044, from Neville Hill and move them to the SVR by rail. It is believed the power cars will be temporarily stored at Arley on the heritage line until they receive attention.

Once released back to Colas, it is planned that the power cars will be used on Colas-operated PLPR (Plain Line Pattern Recognition) test trains for Network Rail.

Preserved 43044, owned by the 125 Group, will move by road from the SVR to its new home at the Great Central Railway (Notts), Ruddington.

Several Class 91s have now returned to service with LNER as demand for services picks up. On July 17, recently-reinstated 91107 Skyfall passes through Weston. Nick Green
