SCOTRAIL INTER7CITY DEPOT PROGRESS

-

A £33 million depot at Cadder Yard, between Bishopbriggs and Lenzie, to be used by Scotrail Inter7city (IC7) High Speed Trains will open fully this December.

The depot features three service platforms and overnight stabling for six HSTS. It is expected up to 100 staff each day will be on site. A new cleaning facility and refuelling unit is being installed with initial operations beginning in June. The first IC7 visited in early-may.

Alex Sharkey, Network Rail programme director for the Rail System Alliance Scotland, said: “There will be many strategic benefits from this new HST depot to both Network Rail and Scotrail. “The new facility will free up space at Edinburgh Haymarket, Glasgow Eastfield and Perth station, providing greater flexibility” Scotrail has 25 IC7 sets. No decision has yet been taken on replacing the set written off following last year’s Carmont derailment.
