Cameron’s celebrity A4 farewell detailed

THE ‘FINAL farewell’ for John Cameron’s Gresley A4 4-6-2 60009 Union of South Africa will be at a special event held at the East Lancashire Railway from December 31January 3, 2022, when its boiler certificate expires.

It is not planned to overhaul the A4 again, but the owner plans to put it on static display at a yet-to-bedecided location.

Union of South Africa is also booked to work during the ELR’S October 15-17 Autumn Steam Gala and on normal service trains (plus some of the ELR’S Dining with Distinction trains) on August 11-15 and September 1/2.
