68007 Forth Bridge on October 26, 2015
Another genre of photography that I love is architecture. I am drawn to angles, symmetry and the amazing achievements of man. The Forth Bridge is not just a Scottish icon, it’s an absolute masterpiece of engineering. Every time I cross it I am both humbled and blown away by it. There’s simply no other rail bridge that does this to me.
Catching a shot of a train crossing the bridge remains to this day a must-do part of every single trip I make to Edinburgh, and each time I visit, I try to find a different way of photographing it. Last year I did the Maid of the Forth boat trip under the bridge, and obtained some unique angles of the trains passing over me. I hope one day to be able to book a tour to the very top for a looking-down shot.
On this occasion, in the autumn of 2015, 68007 Valiant was photographed from Dalmeny platform. I utilised a long lens to reach into the bridge and compress the scene, making the bridge appear much smaller than it really is.
