43143 at Killiecrankie on November 5, 2019

-

My favourite time of year for photography is always autumn. The changing colours, cooler air, misty mornings and sharp sunlight are all an irresistible draw for any serious photographer! Perthshire is another of my go-to regions of Scotland and in 2017 I discovered the beautiful Killiecrankie gorge near Pitlochry, and have visited it every year since.

The autumn leaves usually peak in mid-october here, but as our climate is constantly changing, I’ve had to make more than one visit in the past two years to be there at the right time. This shot from 2019 was taken in early November, with HST 43143 heading its train across the picturesque viaduct nestled in the gorge.
