ENCOURAGING START FOR LLANGOLLEN
The Llangollen Railway Trust board says it is “encouraged” by the support given to the resumption of trains from July 9 with a Llangollen to Berwyn DMU shuttle.
DMU services were extended to Glyndyfrdwy from August 13 after track repairs in Berwyn tunnel. A steam service – using GWR 2-8-0 3802 – had been due to start from that date, after point repairs had taken place at Glyndyfrdwy to allow the locomotive to run around its train, but this was delayed due to paperwork issues. However, it was hoped that 3802 would be in service within a few days of the original planned date.
The railway was reopened between Glyndyfrdwy and Carrog a week later on August 20.
Completion of the full 10-mile route through to Corwen is scheduled for March 2022.
A £143,290 grant from the second phase of the Wales Cultural Recovery Fund is assisting with salary and overhead costs.
