London – and Class 375s from The Shard on June 29, 2014
I like this picture because there is plenty to look at – drone users, eat your heart out!
Seriously though, my better half and I had a weekend in London, and if I would agree to traipse around the shops with her, then she would agree to accompany me up to the top of The Shard on the Sunday morning. I really thought photography would be impossible through glass, although with the exception of a few, most were free of reflections and the glass was clean.
I managed to stay for around an hour-and-a-half before my wife got bored, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and it was worth every penny. I would happily do it again if I get the chance and could recommend it to anyone.
There’s nothing particularly exciting railway-wise in this instance – a couple of pairs of Class 375 ‘Electrostar’ EMUS to and from Charing Cross, which can be seen across the bridge with the vertical supports. As I said earlier, there is plenty to look at – Buckingham Palace to the left of the London Eye, and Waterloo on the left with Big Ben above that. Also the line from Blackfriars cuts across at 90 degrees this side of Waterloo East, with Metropolitan Junction coming in by Borough Market Junction at the bottom of the picture.
