The second week of September saw 144015 and 144021 removed by road from Worksop to Long Marston for further storage, both of the threecar sets having been donated to the University of Birmingham for use in rail research projects.
At the same time, 144012 also made the same journey, having passed to Network Rail ownership.

Between late July and mid-august, Wessex sets dispatched by road from Wolverton for scrapping at Sims, Newport, included all of 442413 and 442414 along with 71839, 71863, 77403 and 77427 from 442422, leaving MBS 62958 still to go.
Also sent to their doom have been 71834 and 77398 from 442417 with 77413 from 442408 noted heading into Wales on the M4 on August 20. Meanwhile, at Eastleigh Works, 77412 from 442407 was scrapped by Raxstar on August 3.Class 27/8–66703 + 465920 5Q88 21:33 Wabtec, Doncaster-slade Green.

CLASS 484
24-25/8–484002 transferred by road from Eastleigh to Sandown, one car per day, set then formed and moved to Ryde by a Unimog road/rail vehicle. Car 233 from 484003 then moved on 26/8 with 133 following on 31/8, set then transferred from Sandown to Ryde on 1/9. Only 484005 now awaits delivery to the island. 9/9–484003 became the first of the class onto Ryde Pier for platform gauging checks and an emergency evacuation trial (picture on Page 8).
