RAIB will issue safety digest following Grosmont collision
THE RAIL Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) is to issue a safety digest following a collision that took place on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) on September 21. Visiting Class 20, 20189, collided with the rear of a stationary passenger train at Grosmont station at a speed of approximately 10mph. The accident resulted in minor injuries to five passengers and some damage to the train.
NYMR’S head of business development, Laura Strangeway, said in a statement issued on the railway’s website the following day: “I am immensely proud of the team here at the railway – with passenger safety paramount, the situation was managed carefully and as quickly as possible. While there were no serious injuries to passengers, the carriages involved in the incident are now out of operation while the investigation is ongoing.” The RAIB said that following a preliminary examination into the circumstances surrounding the incident, it would be issuing a safety digest over the coming weeks.
