LYR/LNWR centenary to be celebrated in 2022
being hatched for a programme of events in 2022 to mark the 100th anniversary of the merger of the London & North Western Railway (LNWR) and Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway (LYR).
The merger only lasted a year until grouping on January 1, 1923.
The East Lancashire Railway (ELR), Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR), LYR and LNWR trusts, Crewe Heritage Centre, Bolton Council and Ribble Steam Railway (RSR) are planning a full event programme. Outline plans include a mid-june LNWR gala at the East Lancashire
Railway and an LNWR event at Crewe Heritage Centre alongside celebrations at the KWVR and RSR. Newly-overhauled LYR ‘Ironclad’ 0-6-0 957 will be repainted from its fictional bright green into LYR black by the KWVR in time for the celebrations.
