The Midland Pullman HST towards Newsholme on May 14, 2021.

Newsholme is a photo I have done several times, always trying to get a different angle or perspective, usually with steam. One thing I hadn’t really considered when it comes to steam workings is the exhaust that tends to cover Pendle Hill in the backdrop.

So I decided to head back when the new Midland Pullman HST set was heading to Carlisle on crew training. I was surprised to be the only one there that day, and was also very pleased to see Pendle Hill clearing after thick cloud had covered the bulk of it all morning.

Despite the lack of sunshine, this is still one of my favourite images of a HST set, with the vibrant blue of the Pullman livery juxtaposing with the fresh green fields, providing plenty of colour on an otherwise ‘Monochrome’ day.
