I MUST confess that Neil Gibson is not a name I recognised when this book arrived for review, but he is clearly a very gifted and talented photographer, as this newly released Amberley book clearly demonstrates.

The book covers the photographer's journeys around Scotland between 2000 and 2019. Covering the railways of Central Scotland, the East Coast Main Line, the Highland Main Line, Kyle, Mallaig, Oban, West Coast Main Line and the West Highland Line, Neil has amassed a huge amount of very good images of passenger, freight and infrastructure trains across Scotland. Scotland boasts some of the most scenic railway locations in the UK and the landscape often lends itself well to railway photography. The breathtaking scenery provides a dramatic backdrop to many of the images. It also provides a look back at the railway liveries that have graced Scotland’s rail network, several of which have been dispatched to the history books.

As with all Amberley photo books, this is a 96 page softback book printed on good quality paper and is priced at £15.99. The cover image depicts Direct Rail Services 68023 on a freight working on the Highland Main Line. With mainly two images printed on each page, it is an excellent volume and certainly one of the best I have seen to come from Amberley.
