THE WESTERN Locomotive Association (WLA) is one of the UK'S most respected modern traction preservation groups, which owns, operates and maintains Class 52 Western locomotives D1013 Western Ranger and D1062 Western Courier on the Severn Valley Railway.

The WLA has produced two calendars for 2022, with a large A3 colour wall calendar and a smaller desk calendar.

The wall calendar is devoted to D1013, which is currently undergoing an extensive overhaul at the SVR’S Kidderminster Traction Maintenance Depot. The calendar features a mixture of images of the locomotive working during its BR operating career and also following its preservation by the WLA. The reason D1013 has been chosen as the focus of the group's calendar is due to the locomotive celebrating its 60th anniversary of entering BR traffic in December 2022.

Printed on high quality paper and with plenty of space for the purchaser to write appointments and significant dates, this is a well laid out calendar. It is priced at £12.50, plus £3.50 for postage and packing and is excellent value for money.

The WLA has also produced a

Desk Calendar featuring all of the other Western locomotives that were introduced in 1962, with 15 different Swindon and Crewe examples pictured. The desk calendar retails at £9 plus £1 postage.

Both calendars are produced to a very high standard and I can happily recommend them to anyone interested in the Westerns.
