Grade II Garsdale signalbox refurbished

-

NETWORK RAIL has completed a sympathetic refurbishment on the Grade Ii-listed signalbox at Garsdale on the Settle and Carlisle line.

The 111-year-old building – located on the Carlisle-bound platform at Garsdale station – has had its structural timbers and outside wood renewed. The signalling electronics have been refurbished, and the roof and windows on the ‘box have been replaced, returning the structure to its former glory.

The work has been funded as part of the Great North Rail Project investment.

Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, said: “This is fantastic news and my thanks go to the Network Rail engineers who have been working hard to get this refurb done.

“The iconic Settle to Carlisle line is such an important route, both for people getting to and from work and for tourists visiting the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.”
