Teignmouth Hitachi IET on October 22, 2019

-

I’ve tried to cover several photography techniques in my 10 Pictures. This one is a daytime long exposure that was only possible with the use of a Nisi 10 stop neutral density filter.

With my camera mounted on a tripod, my intentions were to capture a GWR Hitachi IET running at speed through this classic location at

Teignmouth. A youngster running ahead of his family had other ideas and jumped into the shot as it the train was passing, creating a ghostly wave as it did so.

The boy waving at the train so easily could have been me 35 years ago, standing in the same location watching Class 50s thump past during the summer school holidays. The photo also goes to show that some shots turn out to be better when they aren’t planned!

Photo details: Canon EOS R – Nisi 10 Stop Filter – Camera mounted on tripod – cable release – at 5 secs, F5.6, ISO 200.
