Avanti West Coast seeks 40 new drivers
AVANTI WEST Coast is seeking to recruit 40 new train drivers during 2022, with the West Coast Main Line operator operator saying it wants to encourage more people, especially women, to consider train driving as a realistic career to pursue. Applications for the first 10 positions opened in January, and more than 1000 people signed up to take part in an online question-and-answer session featuring recently qualified London-based driver Hayley Richardson. She is a former detective constable with Cambridgeshire Police and has taken the opportunity to change her career.
Avanti West Coast head of drivers, Richard Morrow, said: “Train driving is a wonderful career – one that carries a lot of responsibility and job satisfaction.
“While the application process is competitive, if you think you have what it takes, then we’d love to hear from you.”
Candidates need to be aged over 20 years and six months of age, live within an hour of their designated depot, and meet the required medical standards. Further posts are expected to be advertised by the company in June for depots in the Midlands and North West. A dedicated webpage offering help and advice to people thinking about train driving as a career, with the option to sign up for job alerts, has been set up by the company and can be found at: www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/about-us/careers/ train-driver-recruitment
