37405 and 37415 hauling an SRPS Charter passing Loch Eilt on May 4, 2002.
I’d always considered this view of Loch Eilt to be the best railway view in Britain. But I had always believed it to be on the Kyle line! So, when I made my first ever visit to the Mallaig extension with three friends, I was both stunned and delighted when they said the main shot they wanted was Loch Eilt.
After getting a bit of a mocking from the lads, we took the hike to this stunning view in time for 37405 and 37415 to arrive full bore, working 1Z18 from Dunbar to Mallaig on a Scottish Railway Preservation Society charter on May 4, 2002. I honestly couldn’t quite believe that I’d nailed this shot, on what was a stunning introduction to chasing trains in the Highlands.
