Army Tug 60040 The Territorial Army Centenary reflects in the Sankey Canal on April 20, 2009.
Once the Class 60s began being prematurely withdrawn, I set about the task of photographing them all – a task that proved to be quite difficult, but I completed it with the much appreciated help of Ross Byers.
60009 was my final one, but this was a locomotive that had been withdrawn for some time. But I did get the shot I desperately wanted, when I photographed 60009 at South Bank after a rushed drive north from Leyland. I well recall my boss being most unhappy as I made for Teeside rather than attend a BAE Systems course!
Anyway, my favourite Class 60 shot is this one of 60040 reflected in the Sankey Canal, with Fiddlers
Ferry power station as an impressive backdrop
– a reflection shot that the gallery of fotters were lucky to get. I remember the group’s disbelief as a mattress slowly meandered along the canal towards us. Thankfully 60040 appeared working 6f78 Fiddlers Ferry to Liverpool empties just in the nick of time. Phew!
