been looking forward to the arrival of the latest volume of Terminal Blue by Ted Reading. The previous volumes I have reviewed in the series have been excellent and I’ve really enjoyed pouring over the pages on several occasions. I have certainly not been disappointed with the latest offering.

Volume Seven, the final instalment of the Terminal Blue series, covers London Victoria and Charing Cross, and also includes some of the routes heading south out of the capital. Ted’s writing style takes you on the journey with him, with the captions providing sufficient background about the scene, without being too much. In terms of traction, if you are a fan of the era of slam-door stock, Class 33s, 73s and a whole host of other locomotive types, then you have plenty on show in this volume.

As much as I think that many people expect colour photography from books these days, the fact that these books solely contain monochrome photographs helps to add to the overall atmosphere of the period that is being covered. While I would have loved to have seen the images reproduced in colour just for sheer nostalgia, this does not detract from the overall enjoyment. They are excellent as they are.

These books are self-published by the author and produced in relatively small quantities and capture perfectly an era of rail travel that many of us remember fondly – and they deserve a wider audience than they probably have.

If you would like to buy a copy of Terminal Blue: Volume Seven, or any of the other volumes that Ted Reading may still have available, please contact the author directly by telephone, or email, to order your copy.
