Coming up in the June Issue!
➔ A fixture on the East Coast Main Line for more than three decades, the Class 91 and Mk.4 Intercity 225 sets are now in their twilight years of service with LNER, while some Mk.4 coaching sets are also in use on Transport for Wales’s Class 67 locomotive-hauled sets. In the next issue of Railways Illustrated, we speak to Chris Curtis and Ben Denton-cardew from the 225 Group about the work they are doing to promote the trains that are still running and their plans to hopefully see some of the vehicles survive into preservation in the future.
➔ Two years ago we spoke to Peak Rail general manager Mark Sealey, shortly after he took up the lead role at the Derbyshire heritage line. In the first of a new series of features looking at the challenges facing some our heritage railways, Mark explains how Peak Rail is working hard to maximise business opportunities to sustain it into the future.
➔ A growing number of Class 43 high speed train power cars and Mk.3 HST trailer coaches have now found their way into preservation, as the trains gradually disappear from the UK rail network. We speak to 125 Preservation's Craig Owen. The group operates a short-formed preserved HST on the Nene Valley Railway, as well as owning several other preserved HST vehicles.
➔ Our regular 10 Pictures photographic feature next month comes from talented and prolific railway photographer Martyn Tattam, who is a regular fixture at the lineside. Martyn’s 10 Pictures submission brings us a fantastic selection of photographs depicting preserved steam and diesel locomotives in action within the heritage sector.
