Student’s unique elevator pitch becomes a movie
A COLLEGE student is going up in the world, all thanks to Reading’s tallest building and a unique elevator pitch.
John Browing, an art, design and communications student at Reading College, spent a week at The Blade, talking to people about their use of the building’s lift.
He says he was inspired by the film LIFT, by Mark Isaacs.
The youngster asked staff about their experience of The Blade, and the resulting film shares some of their stories, against the unique perspective offered by The Blade’s external lift.
John said he has always had a keen interest in film, and was inspired to translate Isaacs’ concept to a local building.
“The Blade is such a distinct and modern structure, and I particularly I liked the fact that the lifts were external,” he said.
“As the tallest building in Reading, The Blade provides a unique view of the town, and although my film’s perspective is different to Marc Issacs, who filmed people entirely in the confined space, I felt having an additional view of a recognisable location would give an extra dimension to the film.”
And The Blade’s team were happy to help.

Many of our occupiers tell us how proud they are to work in such an iconic location, and this film has been able to capture some of their thoughts and feelings about their working lives.
