READING FC are now on the brink of securing League One safety after they picked up three points away at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night.

The Royals added three more points to their tally as goals from Sam Smith and Lewis Wing ensured Reading returned from the Memorial Stadium with all three points.

Ruben Selles’ team are now nine points above the relegation zone and with a superior goal difference to all of the teams around them.

Despite now being close to sealing their League One status, Selles is still focused on the task at hand and is determined for the Royals to be mathematically safe as soon as possible.

“I think we talked about it after Lincoln, the team are in a good dynamic and performed exactly how we wanted to perform,” said Selles.

“It takes a lot of character to play in the circumstances we are, fighting relegation and playing the way they have been playing.

“This season for Reading, it’s never done until the final whistle. We talked about getting a lot of points because we never know what might happen.

“Hopefully, nothing more happens now with the process we are living but it’s not done for us.”

READING FC manager Ruben Selles admitted that he feels ‘honoured’ that the Royals’ fans are planning to unveil a flag in dedication to him.

The fans crowdfunded more than £2,000 to pay towards the flag which is expected to be revealed for the final game of the season at home against Blackpool.

“I feel honoured that they feel like that about me,” said Selles. “I really didn’t expect it and they just showed me this morning.

“I don’t think I deserve it but it’s always good they pay tribute to the work and feel we’re doing the best we can do.

“Hopefully, we can solve relegation before they unveil the flag and then everyone can be happy.”

Reading fan Ricky Ezard added: “Thanks again for everyone that has contributed to the creation of this flag.

“I just wanted to touch on why we’re creating this flag. This flag is intended as a symbol of respect for our manager, who has stood by the club through its recent challenges. “His unwavering dedication, hard work, and continued support for the players embody the spirit of our club.

“I’m excited to share one of the designs we’ve received, but it still requires some tweaks.

“For instance, we need to adjust the spacing of the wording behind his head to ensure it’s clear that it consists of two words.

“We believe the image of him is strong, and it helps conveys the gravity of the situation we face at this time.”

■ The Royals host Blackpool at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday, April 27 (12.30pm kick-off).
