Fans queue early for comics
THEY were queueing in the Harris Arcade, and all to get their hands on the latest comics … without paying a penny.
On Saturday, independent retailer Crunch Comics joined other comic book stores across the world to take part in the annual Free Comic Book Day.
Customers could pop in to the store, buy some of the latest comics, manga, graphic novels and merchandise and take advantage of a sale on back issues. And they could also take home two comics specially produced for the day.
Titles included comics featuring Spider-Man, Hellboy, Pokeman, Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles, and Unicorn Crush.
Demand was so high that the store opened an hour early, at 9am, there were queues outside the store as people rushed to get their favourites, and the store was packed with people throughout the day.
And the idea that comics are for geeks was dispelled by the sheer variety of customers, including youngster picking up the latest Dogman and Bunny Vs Monkey titles.
Assistant store manager Bryce was delighted with how the day had gone.
“Free Comic Book Day 2024 has been our best yet,” she said.
“We had people queuing up in the Harris Arcade 40 minutes before our opening and the store stayed full all day.
“It’s been great to see all our regulars come out to support us on our biggest day but also to see every new customer and help them pick up some great deals while exploring how great the world of comics, graphic novels and manga can be.
“Free Comic Book Day is about showing the best of the comics world and we really did today.”
