DO IT WHILE YOU STILL CAN by Nick Adams
At 170 pages, this isn’t a long read, but it’s a very enjoyable one. There’s so much in here that I can identify with and I’m sure that’s true for so many. From his days with an Ariel Leader in the vicinity of Birmingham, through a range of bikes until he took the plunge and emigrated to Canada in 1977, Nick really has lived the dream. His continuing long-distance exploits on all kinds of roads over there are inspiring. He travels several hundred miles in a day on bikes that prove a GS simply isn’t essential. His thirst for hitting the road and going a very long way is something that I completely identify with. The difference is that for me, a couple of times a year around Scotland or over the channel is the best I can do, whereas he seems to do it at a whim, any time. I bow my head in shame at my inadequacy.
The title, Do It While You Still Can ,is also in the penultimate sentence. The final line reminds us that ‘the days when you can’t will arrive soon enough.’ Too true. I’m listening, Nick. Thank you.
