Real Classic

FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS by Sue Horton

-

This recent paperback reveals what life is like for a racing motorcyclist – written not by the rider but by his long-term partner. The behind-the-scenes story of two-stroke Grand Prix racing, the genuine perils of the Isle of Man and the fading days of the Continental Circus – as seen from the side of Clive Horton, TT winner and British 125 champion.

Clive’s career started in 1969 and he went on to compete at club, national and Grand Prix level, riding everything from 125s to 750s. He even raced a Bantam back in 1969 and ’70, with his partner Sue by his side. She was a vital part of the team, in fact – her Fiat van provided the transport! In the end, Clive had to marry her… or buy his own van.

Author Sue described the tale as ‘a love story with motorcycle racing as its backdrop. And it’s about a love of racing. It’s a tale of sex, racing and rock and roll, and about a time that is now passing into history. I can’t take anything entirely seriously so it is written with a comedic bent. It’s about success and failure, love and heartache, fun and adventure, and of two lives, I hope, well lived.’
