THIS MONTH we’ve been reading INHIBITOR PHASE by Alastair Reynolds (serious sci-fi which isn’t quite as astonishing as the earlier books in the Revelation Space sequence, but still a cut above the average); THE SHATTERED SKIES by John Birmingham (genocidal interstellar war! How wonderful); STARSHIP MAGE by Glynn Stewart (intriguing idea but a lot of froth and not a lot of plot); FORTITUDE, also by Glynn Stewart (fourth in a series of fun space mercenary stories), and THIS POISON WILL REMAIN, by Fred Vargas (super-superior, very eccentric French detective stories – start at book one…).

Oddly, it wasn’t too awful. But if you’re looking for a great film try ISLE OF DOGS (absurd adult anime) or REACHER if you prefer high-quality longform TV crime drama. Also, THE TOURIST was better than expected; a crime-thriller set in the Aussie outback featuring a fella who can’t quite remember who he’s killed…
