An intriguing alternative to folding or sliding designs, glazed pivot door panels, especially on a large scale, look highly contemporary and very striking, making them the perfect choice for modern homes where swathes of slim-framed glazing is a focal feature.

The pivot construction, allowing the doors to turn on a 90° angle, means that super-sized doors – over 2m wide and 3m plus tall, and heavier than standard doors – are easily achievable. Pivot doors also look fabulous set within glass curtain walling. The downside? Pivot doors are far from practical for high traffic areas, where they will need to be opened regularly. Also bear in mind that the nature of the pivot hinge makes the actual opening size of the door smaller: for example, a 1.2m wide door on a pivot will have an opening of around 95cm. Remember, too, that as the door opens, the pivot end swings into the room, which could affect where you put your furniture.
