LETTING OFF STEAM

Kay and Paul Peel remodelled their family bathroom into a spa-style space ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation

It was a road trip along the Romantische Strasse route in Germany that first inspired Kay and Paul to create a steam room in their Oxfordshire home. ‘We travelled from Wurtzburg to Fussen and stayed in some beautiful Bavarian spa hotels along the way,’ Kay explains. ‘We always headed straight for the steam room after a long drive as we found it so relaxing.’

The couple lived in their new-build three-storey house for two years before changing their bathroom, which was awkwardly located on the ground floor. ‘The house is built into a bank and its entrance is actually on the first floor, so having the bathroom below really wasn’t convenient,’ Paul says. ‘We decided that the house would work so much better for us if we turned the shower room on the top floor into a ➤
