Floor materials in utility rooms need to be extremely hardwearing and able to withstand everything from pets’ claws to muddy boots. ‘Choose water-resistant flooring so any accidental spills or drips from wet laundry are easily dealt with,’ says Sam Hart, designer at Roundhouse. ‘Tiled or stone floors are practical. If your budget doesn’t stretch far, consider opting for vinyl instead: you can find inexpensive designs in stone or wood effect and the material is easy to clean.’
