‘It’s almost impossible to have too large a utility room, so be generous if you can afford to, leaving space for washing and drying, pets, a cleaning cupboard, and maybe the boiler, too,’ says Michael Holmes. ‘If space is tight, the smallest area possible is a cupboard big enough for a 60cm-wide washer dryer, and some slatted shelves above for clean and dirty laundry.’
