Final Pre-work Jobs

-

Some simple tasks in the days before the builders are due can save you a lot of hassle and time later on. The aim of the game is to minimise disruption, so, where possible, move as much furniture into storage or to a relative or friend’s house for the duration. This not only reduces the risk of them being damaged or getting in the way of work, it also means you can bring shiny, dust-free furniture back into the house once complete. Also, consider proper dust protection to isolate the areas where work won’t be carried out – it will never fully eradicate it but the protector sheets around doorways can certainly help keep the worst out.

Don’t forget, too, that now is the time to plan the logistics. Where will you eat if the kitchen is being taken out and remodelled? Where will the kids sit at night in a safe and warm environment? The extension project is going to be messy and disruptive, so think practically about how you will live around it. ➤
