SPOTLIGHT ON EN SUITE BATHROOMS

Amplify your small space and live the dream

-

ONE

If installing a new en suite, consider where’s best to put it. Fitting one near to or above an existing bathroom will make things easier. Weigh up how much of your bedroom space you’re willing to lose. You’re likely to spend more time in your bedroom, so you don’t want to be left with a space that feels too small.

TWO

How will you connect the two rooms? In small areas, classic doors can be obtrusive and take up valuable space. Instead, consider a pocket door, which slides out of sight when open. Crittall-style glass screens are a stylish, subtle division. Or, get rid of the door altogether for a seamless flow.

THREE

Make your en suite feel like an extension of your bedroom. The simplest way to do this is to stick with the same style throughout and choose similar colours and accents. If choosing a heritage style bedroom with gold finishings, for example, go for the same in your en suite.

FOUR

Storage is key, so look for ways you can maximise it. Choose two-in-one designs, such as vanity units with drawers and mirrored cabinets. Built-in storage helps you use every inch of space and make the most of awkward areas, so it’s worth considering this at the start of your design process.

FIVE

For small rooms, don’t forget the oldest trick in the book – reflective surfaces. Oversized mirrors, high gloss paint, shiny tiles and plenty of metallics work to bounce light around and will make your en suite feel bigger. Light, bright paint colours also bring a reflective quality.
