FROM THE EDITOR
One of the very best things about working for an interiors magazine is having a nosy around other people’s homes. Let’s be honest, there are few things more enjoyable than taking a tour of a friend’s new flat, glimpsing someone’s front room as you walk past their house, or even browsing Rightmove to marvel at (or judge) the, ahem, interesting choices people have made. I wish there was something like the National Garden Scheme but for houses, where you could traipse around, admire the surroundings and enjoy a bit of homemade cake ( just me?). I’m lucky to be immersed every day in a style-savvy community that has a never-ending supply of innovative, budget-friendly ideas that we get to share with our readers.
So it’s with much excitement that we’re launching our 2022 Home of the Year awards as part of our search for more amazing homes across the
UK. With five categories to enter, we’re looking for the best homes, kitchens, bathrooms, gardens and room makeovers to feature in this magazine – and did I mention there’s £1,000 up for grabs, too? Every year it’s a pleasure to read through all of your entries – whittling them down to a shortlist is a hard job, but someone’s got to do it! Read more about the awards and find out how to enter on p.20.
If you’re not at the point of being able to share your work, we’ve got you covered. From project advice to stylish buys, we hope we can inspire you with the best ideas out there, as well as giving you the confidence to give something a go. Use our guide to cutting the cost of your bathroom on page 112 for a sanctuary-style space on a budget, and take inspiration from nature to create a soothing scheme in our decorating feature on page 36.
We’re also venturing outside in this issue, with a guide to garden rooms, shopping edits on outdoor furniture and patio pavers, and our pick of the best sliding doors to help create a better flow between indoors and out.
Whatever you’re working on, I hope this issue helps you along the way – happy reading!
