The Tower of London’s Beefeaters are set to strike over their pensions. Did you also know…?

Real People - - MAD OUR WORLD! -

● ‘Beefeater’ is the nickname for the Tower’s Yeoman Warders, a job created by Henry VII. ● Part of their job is protecting the Crown Jewels. ● Until the 1800s, their wages were partly paid in beef. ● In 2007, Moira Cameron became the first female to be appointed to the post. Two years later, in 2009, two other Beefeaters were sacked for harassing her.

● Every night, the Beefeaters hold the Ceremony of the Keys, putting the Queen’s keys away safely. ● To get the job, you need at least 22 years’ service in the Armed Forces.
