Kim Parker meets the three famous women designing some of the coolest wear-anywhere clothes around

Why did you design a jumpsuit?

I’m a trousers kind of girl. Plus, jumpsuits are so easy – they’re an outfit in one. This is the second one I’ve designed for Finery. The first was dark navy, which was really cool, but for spring I wanted a jumpsuit that would look crisp and fresh, so it had to be a light colourway. I also wanted some nice detailing, like a good collar you can pop up (I love doing that, it gives your look a nice edge) and shorter sleeves that show a little skin for summer. I’ll wear this one with a vest top underneath, some Stan Smiths and statement earrings.

What’s next on your shopping list?

I’m on the lookout for the perfect little black dress at the moment – but I generally find trousers much more comfortable. If I can, I’ll try to incorporate a little of my own style into the characters I play, too. I’ve actually fallen for a few things that Kate Fleming wears in Line Of Duty – I’d say our styles are pretty similar. I’ve got a lovely cardigan from Cos that was part of her costume but didn’t make the final edit, which is actually great because sometimes, after wearing the exact same thing on set for months, I’m like, ‘Get it away from me!’

What makes something a ‘forever’ piece for you?

It has to be a classic – nothing too busy that could potentially go out of fashion. I’ve got to an age where cropped tops and weird hemlines just aren’t an option any more. I think my jumpsuit is on the right lines – the cream is striking but it’s also a good neutral, not too bold or mad. And the design details, like the pockets and the wide-leg shape, feel modern but they also won’t date.

Which other wardrobe must-haves will you be wearing for ever?

Polonecks and T-shirts, which I get from John Lewis in Nottingham, where I live. In London, where it’s easier to get niche brands, I make a beeline for places like Arket, which has great quality pieces. I’m very lucky to own a few Aspinal of

London handbags, too. They can be pricey, but my big berry-coloured tote, for example, carries everything I need. You can really invest in a good bag because it will last you a long time. Denim’s always going to be a part of my wardrobe – I’m for ever in my Joe, Paige and Topshop jeans, either a skinny or a more relaxed boyfriend shape. Saying that, I’m into my high-waist Weekday jeans at the moment. I wore them for my role as Lol in This Is

England and they came right up to my stomach. At the time, I remember thinking, ‘This is horrible.’ But now I like them. Mcclure jumpsuit, £139 (from mid March). Trainers (opposite), £80, Adidas at Schuh »
