20 YEARS OF RED

Five years ago, when Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan first starred alongside each other in one of the hottest crime-dramas on TV – The Fall – Red featured the joyful pair in its pages. The shoot was under the artistic direction of Beverley Croucher, Red’s picture director, and was inspired by the iconic photographer Philippe Halsman, who asked all of his portrait sitters to jump once he’d finished shooting, believing it unmasked them. ‘Gillian and Jamie had to leap high and in sync,’ Croucher tells us. ‘Luckily, they were totally up for it and had an amazing connection and chemistry. They bounced off each other, so we got lots of great shots.’ While all this jumping might have felt like a workout to us, for the stars it was effortless – and they managed to look good doing it (credit to Gillian’s gorgeously floaty Dior dress, too).
