THE PROPERTY GAME

- By Sue Fox, CEO of M&S Bank

BE OPEN ABOUT YOUR CREDIT HISTORY WITH YOUR PARTNER

Many couples find it useful to have a joint current account, particularly for paying joint bills or saving for a joint purchase. If that’s you, it’s important to understand that a joint account links your credit report with your partner’s, so you need to discuss the possible implications, particularly if you’re planning on embarking on joint home ownership.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE IN A RELATIONSHIP TO GET A JOINT MORTGAGE

While many of us can’t go it alone when purchasing property, it doesn’t mean we need to be in a relationship. You can get a joint mortgage for up to four people, which allows friends, family or professionals to buy a home together.
